~ The Three Gates/God ~
When I started this journey, I wasn't looking for God. My own master, OSHO, would at times ridicule God, especially when talking about western beliefs in some God "out there", and at other times make reference to God with love and affection. Aware of his penchant for contradiction, I did not think much of it at the time. I was simply focused on getting clear, becoming free of the ego bondage. While fairly certain that the god "out there", the God of my youth, was indeed dead, at least for me, the existence/non-existence of God was really not an issue. So when I encountered the God of my youth, inside, it came as both a shock and a revelation. You see, if you go deep into the ego illusion, what you discover is God, for at the very beginning of the illusion, at the very heart of the illusion, is what has been known the world over as God. The last stop in the illusion is God, or God-consciousness, and this is also the gate out of the illusion. This is why masters can be so contradictory about God. If they have gone beyond, then God no longer exists for them. However, when trying to guide others out of the illusion, then in talking about God, one is merely trying to direct one's attention to the entrance to maya, for that is also the exit. God exists in the illusion, but exists not in the ultimate, for God can only exist in separation from existence. Once the veils of separation have been dissolved, the identity they created dissolves with them. God is the first and the last identity.
The very word "God" has great power, and I know that when I use it deep buttons are likely to be pushed, for the God hidden inside can be passionately for or against God, depending on their childhood conditioning and life experience. I do not use the word to deliberately push God's buttons, but rather to get his attention, and the quickest way to get his attention, his ear, is to call his ancient name, and whether theist, atheist, or anything in between, he's sure to appear. Whether he hears any of the message is problematical, largely dependent on whether he's listening to me, or to the anger's interpretation of me. As inconvenient and contentious as the issue of God has become, to ignore it is like trying to guide people out of a burning building while deliberately avoiding pointing to the exit signs. With the ego illusion having become so dangerous, both for humanity and the planet itself, it seems a little late in the game to be pussy-footing around God.
Which brings us to the issue at hand, the gate to your inner God's awakening: the veil of anger. As with all the veils, the veil of anger directs God's attention away from the problem, anger, and distracts him with all the "reasons" he's angry, namely who, or what it is that is allegedly responsible for pissing him off. If God spent less time fuming over the familiar distractions that the anger points to, if God had enough of his innate intelligence left, he would realize the blame has never worked to restore his lost peace, just as in the collective ego experience, the blame game promises peace but never delivers. If God were not so convinced by the anger of his own powerlessness, if God had a shred of dignity, honor, or truth left in him, he might turn some of his attention to what is really driving him crazy, what really is driving him mad: the anger itself.
This is the key to get through the gate. Focus more and more on the anger itself. Observe what it does to you, observe what it does to those around you. Observe the transformation of a sane being into a madman, hell bent on revenge. Observe the physical transformation that occurs when one is possessed by it. Observe someone when they are possessed by the heart of the darkness, hate, and you will actually see the face of the beast within appear in the face. Even the most ravishing beauty is transformed into something so ugly you would not touch it, much less lust after it, for hate is a total ego possession, a total transformation of light into darkness.
God is not stupid, though he is made so by the anger. Once he begins to look at the anger itself, both within and without, a certain detachment begins to develop. The consciousness known as God, the consciousness so long seduced by the illusion of power the anger offers, begins to separate. As it does so, God begins to see, more and more clearly, that his real enemy is the anger, not where it's projecting. With this growing detachment, God's light is automatically withdrawn from the anger, for he is both intelligent and proud, and as he sees clearer and clearer exactly what the anger does to him, he naturally supports it less and less. The anger weakens, and God begins slipping through the gate. God awakens as the anger dies.
Scientists are saying we have ten years to act on global warming. Not only is global warming the tip of the iceberg, but if the current consciousness on the planet prevails, little will be done on this, or the myriad other crises looming before us. The people, the institutions ruling the world are so corrupt, so inept, so self-serving, that the best we can hope for is that they avoid the monumental blunders that have plagued their stewardship. Anyone who believes that governments, religions, science and technology, or the terrorists, both free-lance and institutional, are going to fix the very problems they have played a major role in creating, are living in a serious state of denial. Or, perhaps, they are simply living in America.
In short, things have gotten so bad that only the awakening of God can save us now. So I call on all sleeping Gods, it is now or never. There's no more time to endlessly explore the new age illusion. There is no more time to waste years whining about your suffering with the therapist, or praying to some imaginary higher power for deliverance. It is time to act, and the time is now.
The three pillars of suffering, the three pillars supporting, sustaining, and nurturing the ego madness that is destroying the world are pain, fear and anger. If you have the will to defeat the enemy within, you cannot fail. You simply deny it the light it needs to exist and it dies. You simply watch a series of very uncomfortable physical sensations with detachment, and the whole nightmare dissolves. You're on the Titanic, the lifeboats are beyond the three gates. There are plenty of lifeboats, what there is not plenty of, is time.
The long descent into darkness will end in ignominy or glory. It shall be your darkest hour, or the hour of your greatest triumph. Show the world you have one more rabbit in your hat, one more miracle up your sleeve. Awaken at the hour of greatest darkness and peril, and create a miracle that is the stuff of legends. Slay the beast within and restore your dignity, your honor, your truth, and maybe, just maybe, you will help to save the world. Pass through the gate to peace, and if enough Gods pass through the gate, the peace that has eluded us for so long will begin to descend upon an earth desperate to receive it.
